Description

Normal

Difficulty and access

The Moderately Difficult grade in this listing comes from Ferrate365. Mountain guide Massimo Flaccavento instead rates sector A Very Difficult and sector B Difficult. This substantial disagreement should inform your planning: the route should not be treated as a straightforward beginner outing. Opening status remains unverified; consult the municipality of Alcara Li Fusi for current access rules and environmental restrictions.

Rocca Traura and the Nebrodi

Via Ferrata degli Alcaresi explores the limestone above Alcara Li Fusi, within the Rocche del Crasto landscape. Walls and ridges open onto views towards the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Aeolian Islands. Introduced in June 2026, the route offers a vertical perspective on the Nebrodi mountains, with terrain that demands more than ordinary walking experience.

Planning the outing

Sector A rises from the Madonna della Grazia area towards the summit of Rocca Traura and is intended for ascent only. Sector B descends towards contrada Baratta and is described as usable in either direction. Exposure and vertical climbing require fitness, confidence with ferrata equipment and sustained attention during the descent. Bring a helmet, harness and via ferrata set. Ferrate365 gives approximately 600 metres of ascent for the complete outing; the 450 metres in the technical panel refer to the ferrata. Published timings and measurements are planning estimates, not confirmation of present conditions.
