Sentiero Attrezzato Mora Pellegrini

Overview

The Sentiero Attrezzato Mora Pellegrini is a loop route in the Giudicarie Prealps, on the western side of Lake Garda, that leads to the summits of Monte Pubregno and Monte Corno. The itinerary features modest technical difficulty, making it especially enjoyable for its breathtaking panorama over nearby Lake Ledro. Its nature makes it an ideal choice even for those approaching equipped trails for the first time.

Approach

The starting point is Passo di Tremalzo, in the province of Trento, near the border with the province of Brescia. Parking is available near Rifugio Garibaldi, a useful landmark and support point. From the parking area, take the wide trail 419, heading north on a route with moderate elevation gain. In about 30 minutes, you reach the broad saddle of Bochet de Caset at 1645 meters. Descending briefly on the opposite side, you come to a junction: ignore trail 419 on the right (which will be used for the return) and continue left along trail 416. After a few minutes, keep right to join trail 456B, heading toward Cima Caset. Staying on the eastern side of this summit, you traverse a distinctly panoramic section that quickly leads to the first structures of the equipped route. The total time from the start is about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The approach runs mostly on a wide, well-marked trail with a steady pace and gentle gradients, allowing for a gradual warm-up before the equipped section.

Via Ferrata

The route initially develops on the eastern side of Cima Casèt, crossing grassy slopes below the ridgeline. From here, you can take a short detour to climb the nearby summit, or continue along the trail that cuts across the ridge to the opposite side, eventually reaching the summit of Pubregno (1774 m), the highest point of the itinerary. The route continues on a well-defined track to an easy equipped ledge, followed by other similar short sections. You then arrive at the most challenging passage of the entire route: a descent down a 30-meter gully aided by fixed ropes. This section requires attention and a steady foot, especially given the modest technical difficulties encountered up to that point. After the gully, the trail leads to a panoramic balcony with exceptional views over Lake Ledro below. You then descend from the ridge through a steep chimney, followed by another equipped section, made easier by the presence of metal rungs. Continuing on, you finally reach the metal plaque marking the end of the equipped route at Bocca del Corno di Caset (1654 m), about 1 hour and 45 minutes from the parking area. The route is predominantly horizontal, with moderate ups and downs and exposed but well-protected sections. The environment features solid limestone rock, with the trail winding alternately along airy ledges and short ridge sections, offering a continuous and varied experience that is more scenic than physically demanding.

Descent

From Bocca del Corno di Caset, descend following signs for Bochèt di Spinera (1318 m), which you reach without technical difficulty. At this junction, keep right toward Malga Giù, following trail marker 456. The trail then continues through the forest without any significant obstacles. You may choose not to descend all the way to Malga Giù. Following the signs, you eventually rejoin the junction encountered on the approach, and from there, return to the parking area at Passo di Tremalzo. The total time for the entire loop is about 5 hours. The descent runs on wide, gently sloping forest trails, offering a relaxed pace and gradual cool-down after the equipped section.

The Sentiero Attrezzato Mora Pellegrini is a pleasant and accessible hiking option in the Giudicarie Prealps. Its equipped sections present modest difficulty (difficulty F or lower), making it suitable even for novice hikers, provided they are not prone to vertigo. The panoramic setting is exceptionally beautiful, with continuous views of Lake Ledro and the surrounding peaks. Be cautious during the summer season, as the route, running on south- and southwest-facing slopes, can become very hot. For navigation, it is advisable to use a map dedicated to the Alto Garda and Valle di Ledro area.
